Here's a great article by former strength coach of the Ottawa Senators Lorne Goldenberg on Olympic Weightlifting and it's application to hockey.
We've been discussing training methodologies relating to hockey quite a bit at the gym and how a lot of hockey specific training programs are focusing much more on "conditioning" rather than explosive power and speed. A lot of younger hockey players are being trained like aerobic athletes, focusing on their cardiovascular endurance rather than anaerobic power, muscular strength and power.
It's refreshing hearing from a former NHL Strength Coach that these training methods are being used to develop and maintain strength and power at the highest level of hockey which are two very important components to a great athlete. Take a read!
